Province agrees to consider third remediation option for Colliery Dams

It’s exactly what the City of Nanaimo was hoping for.

The province’s Dam Safety Section has revised its order regarding the Colliery Dams to included the consideration of a third option that would involve reinforcing the lower dam.

Mayor Bill McKay says it’s good news, but they’ll have to work quickly.

McKay says it’s worth pursuing the third option because it will be less costly and less invasive.

The design and construction plans have to be sent to the province by June 22nd, and most of the actual construction work will have to be done by November 15.
