A new 2 per cent tax is kicking in for hotel rooms and other overnight accommodations in Nanaimo.
The province has approved the tax, which the City, Nanaimo Economic Development Corporation and Nanaimo Hospitality Association worked on together.
NEDC CEO Sasha Angus says the money will go towards supporting tourism in the region.
Angus says it’s something many communities in the province have implemented.
The Sunshine Coast Tourism Association is hoping to revive its attempts to get an accomodation tax some time this year.
