Courts declare missing Sechelt woman dead

Nearly 10 years after she disappeared from her Sechelt home, Rhody Lake has been declared dead.

There’s been no sign of Lake since November 27th, 2005 when witnesses saw her walking near Porpoise Bay Provincial Park.  She was 80 at the time.

Lake’s daughter asked the Supreme Court to declare the missing woman dead earlier this month, and a judge has now agreed.

In its submission to the judge, Sunshine Coast RCMP said they don’t believe there was anything criminal in Lake’s disappearance, even though the possibility of foul play has never been completely ruled out.

The court declaration does not make any judgement about the circumstances, but it does put the date of Lake’s death at November 27, 2005.
