Courtwatch short of watchers

Courtwach on the Sunshine Coast is looking to get more people interested in what’s happening in courtrooms.

The group says its numbers at the Sechelt court house have dropped to just 3.

Alice Stewart is one of them.  She says the Courtwatchers feel it’s important to have someone from the public in court, because the courts act in the public’s name.

Stewart says they’re not an advocacy group, but if they see something troubling they will take steps to make sure the right people hear about it.

Stewart says Courtwatch is informal, but they have a manual explaining what observers can and can’t do in a courtroom.  She says the easiest way to join is just drop by the court house and say hi; the Courtwatchers are easy to spot.
