Events planned for Go by Bike Week in Oceanside

The Regional District of Nanaimo is encouraging residents to ride a bike for their daily trips during Go by Bike Week.

The provincewide initiative runs from May 30 to June 5 and encourages residents to use a bike to commute and run errands.

Events are planned in the Oceanside area, including a coffee meetup at the Coombs to Parksville Rail Trail (500 Despard Ave. in Parksville) on June 4 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Residents can ride to Oceanside Place Arena in Parksville or Ravensong Aquatic Centre in Qualicum Beach and drop in for free public swimming, skating or pickleball sessions. The RDN said participants should show their bike helmet for free admission.

There will be a bike trail scavenger hunt, with clues posted at gobybikebc/oceanside.

Residents can also log rides on the website and be entered to win local and provincial prizes.
