Oceanside RCMP asking for witnesses after woman sustains injuries in dirt bike hit and run

The public is being asked to help identify a dirt bike rider responsible for an alleged hit-and-run in the Oceanside region.

Oceanside RCMP said the incident happened around 11:45 a.m. on May 17, when a 63-year-old woman was struck while cycling by a dirt bike in the 1,100 block of Meadowood Way in Qualicum Beach.

“The dirt bike rider knew they struck the cyclist as the male rider said to the cyclist before fleeing that he didn’t mean to do it,” said Sgt. Shane Worth of Oceanside RCMP.

In a news release, RCMP said the woman was cycling uphill when a group of riders passed her and one rider signalled to the group to slow down.

One of the dirt bikes struck the cyclist, forcing her into a ditch and causing broken ribs.

Witnesses saw the crash, called 911 and arranged for the cyclist to be transported to hospital by ambulance. No further descriptions of the dirt bikers were obtained.

Worth said anyone with information about the group, or anyone with dashcam video, is asked to contact Oceanside RCMP.
