Federal funding will help Seaspan instal shore power equipment at it’s Nanaimo terminal and three others operated by the company.
The use of shore power reduces emissions from idling ships.
The Transport and Internal Trade Ministry says Seaspan will be getting up to $6.4 Million to instal shore power at its Duke Point, Swartz Bay, Delta and Surrey terminals, and upgrade four cargo ferries serving those terminals.
Minister of Transport and Internal Trade, Anita Anand, announced up to 35.5 million dollars in funding for three projects at BC ports to use clean technology and infrastructure.
The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority will receive up to $22.5 Million to instal shore power equipment at the Ogden Point Cruise Terminal.
This funding is from the Green Shipping Corridor Program, created to boost clean energy and transportation infrastructure at ports and terminals.
