The federal government is contributing $117-million for water conservation measures for the Sunshine Coast.
The funding will upgrade an existing water treatment plant and build two large water storage reservoirs to manage water within the Chapman Creek watershed.
The Chapman Creek watershed supplies approximately 76 per cent of the population of the Sunshine Coast.
The project is led by the shÃshálh Nation in partnership with the Sunshine Coast Regional District and support from Heidelberg Materials.
The new reservoirs will benefit the SCRD, including the shÃshálh Nation, with a more reliable and sustainable water supply in times of scarcity.
