Tree donation program launched in Nanaimo

Expect several trees to be planted on Beaufort Park, as a city tree program has officially been launched.

The tree donation pilot program was launched on Friday, aiming to improve Nanaimo’s greenery and infrastructure by planting trees.

Mayor Leonard Krog says the program represents a more proactive approach to enhancing their environment.

“We anticipate that the tree donation pilot program will not only enrich our cityscape but also inspire future generations to prioritize environmental stewardship,” said Krog.

For the first year, the city will plant 30 trees on Beaufort Park, costing $1,500 in donations per tree.

Along with an honor board on the planting site, the city will also have a horticulturalist selecting the planted trees to keep things sustainable for the park.
