Request to fund Sechelt road project set for upcoming council meeting

A request for funding a road improvement project is on the agenda for Wednesday’s council meeting.

According to the agenda, Director of Engineering and operations Kirn Dhillon will present a report to council asking for $530,000 in funding for the Inlet Avenue Road Improvement project.

The project is in response to Inlet Avenue not meeting modern standards for accessibility and active transportation in Downtown Sechelt.

So far the project has included new pavement structure, sidewalks, trees, streetlights and ducting from BC Hydro and TELUS.

While most of the work has been done, the report says the district had unanticipated conditions and construction requirements, leading to more costs and change orders.

Issues included inflation, an increase in the number of required ducting, more investigations, location changes of street trees, a thicker asphalt lift, and design changes.

As a result, staff are asking for funding to not only pay invoices but also finish the project, with only road markings and streetlight installation left.

The meeting will take place on the 1st floor community meeting room on Cowrie Street, starting at 7:00 p.m.
