Nanaimo businesses experience a serious spike in break and enters

Nanaimo RCMP say they are seeing an increase in break and enters after they responded to a total of 25 calls from businesses so far this year.

Police say last year only eight calls were responded to between Jan 1. and Jan 8 of 2023 which means so far, they have seen an increase of over 300 per cent.

The break-ins extend from Lantzville to Nanaimo, and according to RCMP a variety of items including computers, power tools, bike,s and vehicles were stolen from each facility.

A media release states entry to the properties was gained by cutting fences or damaging locks to get at the merchandise.

So far Nanaimo RCMP have only recovered two vehicles stolen from a fenced compound at 3400 Shenton Road.
