New strategic plan for school district 46 takes shape

School District 46 on the Sunshine Coast says they are amped up as they get ready to engage members of the community on the new strategic plan.

The board says the new plan is forecasted to be the most significant since the district introduced strategic plans in 2009 because they are redesigning it to make sure they include the new four core values including; learning, belonging, integrity, and equity.

Board of Education chair Amanda Amaral says so far, they have only approved the vision, mission and new values which will start the work of putting together a draft strategic plan.

“We are in the process of consultation for our aspirational student goals,” Amaral says.

The school year started off with the board preparing for the redesign of the plan by engaging, and Amaral says they are planning to wrap the whole process up by the end of the year.

“We are hoping to finish off engagement around April at the very latest, and approve a new plan by May or June, so almost a full school year of engagement with staff and students,” she says.

With the end of the year rapidly approaching Amaral says the board will continue actively gaining new information on how to improve the future of education by various public events and discussions in the new year.

“There are a variety of ways, some are face to face, online and we’ll continue the engagement with the next stage in January,” she says. “Each of the schools will host a session to gather information.”

The board’s new strategic plan will draft the next five years of student learning and success, which the board says they feel is a pivotal part of the community to shape its future.

Strategic plans are in place for five years and typically rebuilt once a new board is elected.

The board says their new plan will help shape the educational minds of 3,462 students.
