Nanaimo RCMP looking to engage public concerns and end stigma

Nanaimo RCMP will be participating in a nationwide event to increase community relations in a casual and friendly setting Tuesday morning.

Police say the event entitled Coffee with a Cop works to enable everyone to engage and get to know officers on a personal level to end any stigma that may be growing in their community.

Media relations officer, Reserve Constable Gary O’Brien says this is a fantastic way for officers to find out what is happening in the community and address increasing issues.

“Police officers are encouraged to get out of their vehicles and to meet face to face with the public,” he says. “We need to find out what concerns are in the community, and Coffee with a Cop affords this opportunity.”

The event is being held at Country Grocer at 1800 Dufferin Crescent on Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
