Highway 4 is expected to fully open next month

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says there is still a lot of work to be done before they can consider fully opening Highway 4.

The highway was shut down for two weeks after the Cameron Lake wildfire forced it to close and has since been open to single-lane traffic.

Public Affairs officer Murray Sinclair says the highway is slated to open next month due to clean-up challenges crews are facing.

“We are expecting the road to be fully open on August 21,” Sinclair says.

According to the Ministry’s website cleanup crews are working around the clock removing rock and debris to effectively move traffic freely.

The ministry is also looking to install a permanent weather station near the site to report on any potential weather emergencies in the future.
