The Nanaimo Ladysmith School Board is going to continue with nine trustees, at least for now.
In May, the SD68 Board approved a consultation procedure to look at reducing their numbers to seven. Board Chair Dot Neary says the response to that consultation was fairly limited.
The results came back to the board last week and Neary says trustees decided the newly-elected board in November should be tasked with examining the issue. Neary says the idea of reducing trustee numbers grew out of a need to save money, but she says that may not be a strong enough argument to make the change without a more detailed look at the board’s composition.
