The Pender Harbour and Area Residents Association have received $75,675 dollars to clean up abandoned and derelict vessels.
The money will pay for the removal of two such vessels in Gerrans Bay.
Both boats are old tug boats, one has sunk, but appears above the surface at low tide creating an obstacle for other vessels on the water.
The other vessel is on the beach at Dusendury Island.
Starting tomorrow, it will be illegal to abandon boats under the federal government’s Wrecked, Abandoned, or Hazardous Vessels Act.
