The Sechelt Fire Chief has issued a fire ban that’s effective tomorrow (Thurs).
The ban is for all the areas within the Sechelt fire protection district which includes the District of Sechelt and the Sechelt Indian Government District.
It includes back yard campfires, chimineas, and beach fires.
Propane and briquette fueled barbecues are allowed as are propane campfire rings as long as the flame height is 6 inches or less.
The other fire departments on the Coast have not yet followed suit however, in the Coastal Fire Centre Category 2 open burns have been prohibited since the beginning of May.
A Category 2 open fire is an open fire, excluding a campfire, that burns piled material no larger than two metres high and three metres wide.
