Bike To Work Week kicks off Monday

Two wheeled transport is going to be the way to go when Bike to Work Week kicks off Monday.

Last year the Sunshine Coast had more than twice as many riders as Nanaimo. Over 600 riders logged over 15,000 kilometers. Organizer Martin Prestage says they’re on track for another good year. Prestage says many of them were trying cycle-commuting for the first time.

Deb Beck is a recreation coordinator for the City of Nanaimo. She says don’t take the “work” part too literally.

Beck says the website is a lot better this year and that’s going to help boost numbers. She says the number of riders registered in Nanaimo has already topped last year.

Celebration stations will be set up to ease the ride. Locations will vary in Nanaimo. Monday morning it’s the E&N Trail and Bowen Road, and the China Steps in the afternoon. . Nanaimo is aslo hosting a wrap-up barbecue on May 30th at Brooks Landing.
