Sharp objects found on School District 46’s sports fields

School District 46 is shutting down 7 of their 14 sports fields until further notice.

“Over the summer some topping soil was applied to our fields and some of it was contaminated,” said SD46 Superintendent Patrick Bocking.

“The topping soil had bits of porcelain, plastic and even glass that was applied to the fields by our contractor.”

Bocking says their staff is working to get the fields cleaned up but at this point, it’s tough to tell when the cleanup will be complete.

The school fields that are affected include West Sechelt, Sechelt Learning Centre, Davis Bay, Roberts Creek, Elphinstone, Halfmoon Bay and Madeira Park.
