BC Human Rights Tribunal dismisses complaint against Gibsons

Despite efforts by a Gibsons resident to file a human rights complaint against the Town of Gibsons, the complaint from Dorothy Riddle has been dismissed by the BC Human Rights Tribunal.

The complaint was filed last year and it alleged that the closure of Winn Road, which is associated with a proposed development of the George Hotel, discriminated against her rights on a basis of disability.

Gibsons CAO Manny Machado says the town felt it was a serious matter and needed to defend themselves.

The town believes they are improving the accessibility to the waterfront instead of the other way around.

Machado says they want to move forward from this and from their perspective, it was unfortunate that this matter was a public matter because it would not have been their preference.
