3rd public hearing on Sechelt’s Lot L draws small crowd, mixed reaction

Sechelt Council is poised to make a decision on the future of the District-owned “Lot L” after a public hearing on rezoning.

The lot on Dusty Road was originally going to be used for a sewer treatment plant.

Now the District wants to keep part of it for a public works yard, and sell off the rest.

Some at the hearing called on the District to keep it all, or at least wait until it sees a review of the new sewer plant. Others just don’t want it considered for a sewer plant again.

Another concern raised was whether changing which bit the works yard is on would open up the rest for a commercial marijuana facility.

Mayor Bruce Milne says that’s not the plan.

Under the recently adopted marijuana production zoning law, the part of the property to be sold cannot be used for a grow op.

The rezoning will likely come back to Council for final approval in December.
