Stolen pocket watch returned to Nanaimo Museum

The Nanaimo Museum is thrilled to have one of their prized artifacts back.

An irreplaceable pocket watch stolen some time in June was turned in Thursday.

The museum isn’t saying who turned it in, or whether they claimed the $500 reward.

The watch belonged to coal miner Robert McArthur, one of 16 men killed in a tragic mining accident in 1918. The watch stopped the moment he died.

Interpretation curator Aimee Greenway says they’re very happy it has been returned.

Greenway says they’re installing more security cameras and they’re considering how to display the watch in a more secure way.
