RCMP say faulty landing gear eyed as cause as plane belly-lands in Powell River

RCMP in Powell River say a problem with the landing gear likely caused a small plane to make a “belly landing” Thursday afternoon.

The pilot, a 79 year old man from Victoria, his co-pilot a 63 year old man, also from Victoria, and their 63 year old passenger – a woman from Powell River – had minor injuries but didn’t need to go to hospital.

The plane was a four-seater, dual-prop Piper Commander, and it suffered damage to the underbelly and both propellers.

The Transportation Safety Board is also conducting an investigation.
