Queen of Oak Bay dry-docked for major upgrades

The Queen of Oak Bay will be out of commission until February as it undergoes a multi-million dollar upgrade at Seaspan’s Vancouver Drydock.

Deborah Marshall of BC Ferries says its sister ship, the Queen on Coquitlam, will take over the Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay route.

The Queen of Coquitlam is the backup vessel for the Langdale to Horseshoe Bay route.

Marshall says if there is a problem there, they could move the ship back over and call up the Coastal Renaissance to serve the Departure Bay route.

The $7.7 million three-quarter life upgrade to the 33-year-old Queen of Oak Bay is part of about $150 million BC Ferries will spend this year alone on vessel maintenance, refits and upgrades.
