Conservation officers investigate shooting of deer in Nanaimo

The B.C. Conservation Officer Service is asking for the public’s help investigating the shooting death of a deer in Nanaimo.

A news release says the deer was shot in a residential area near Wildlife Place and Bird Sanctuary Drive, close to Buttertubs Marsh, early Friday morning.

“The use of a firearm in a residential area presents a significant public safety concern,” it says. “Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, observed suspicious activity or has information that may assist the investigation to come forward.”

The incident happened between 3:30 and 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 23, according to the release. Investigators believe the deer was shot with a rifle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the B.C. Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277 or submit a report online through Report All Poachers and Polluters.
