Trail repairs underway at Mount Benson Regional Park

Work is underway to repair erosion in Mount Benson Regional Park.

The Regional District of Nanaimo says people may see equipment operating on the trail, downed trees beside the trail and other signs of active construction.

“These temporary conditions are necessary to complete the trail improvements safely and efficiently,” the RDN says. “Disturbed areas will be cleaned up, graded and restored as work progresses and before the project is complete. Woody material will be retained in nearby forested areas where appropriate for habitat and ecological benefits.”

The project will repair a 500-metre eroded section of Gordie’s Trail and a 400-metre eroded section of Rafe’s Way.

It will also improve drainage and fix ruts and loose rock that make the trail less accessible.

Work is expected to be completed by Nov. 13.
