Nanaimo Aquatic Centre set to reopen after major upgrades

The Nanaimo Aquatic Centre will reopen next week as a $13.7-million upgrade project wraps up.

The facility will reopen Oct. 5 with a new accessible water feature, new heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems and renovations to the guest services area.

“The Nanaimo Aquatic Centre is an important part of our community and we know many residents have been looking forward to getting back in the pool. These upgrades are an investment in the long-term future of the facility helping to make it more comfortable, efficient and welcoming for the thousands of people who use it,” said Mayor Leonard Krog.

Part of the funding came from the federal and provincial governments through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program – CleanBC Communities Fund, which provided $3.9 million.

The old fishing trawler feature was replaced with a new feature with spray hoses, a large tipping water bucket, a small slide and interactive water-play components for a range of abilities.
