BCNU pickets shifting to Nanaimo Monday

Island Health said plans are in place to maintain essential services where picketing is expected as job action by the B.C. Nurses’ Union (BCNU) escalates.

Picketing is expected to begin at the Central Island Surgical Centre in Nanaimo at 7 a.m. Monday, and some surgeries have been rescheduled.

Picketing is also expected to begin at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital at 5:30 a.m. Monday, which could affect some services.

Island Health is advising patients with scheduled procedures to attend as planned unless they are contacted directly by their health care team.

The health authority said essential care and cancer treatments will continue to be available.

BCNU pickets were active at Victoria General Hospital Sunday.

More information is available on the Island Health website.
