Coastal Tsunami to join new BCHC league next season

The Coastal Tsunami will compete in a rebranded Junior A hockey format next season.

The newly formed British Columbia Hockey Conference (BCHC) will operate as a sanctioned Junior A hockey league with 22 teams under the governance of Hockey Canada.

The Gibsons-based club will be joined by several franchises from the Pacific Junior Hockey League and the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League and will play in the Mainland Division, one of three divisions under the BCHC banner.

The BCHC said it will work with BC Hockey to discuss next steps in establishing sanctioned Junior B hockey in parts of the province that do not currently have it.

“We continue to take measured and thoughtful steps to build our junior hockey pathways in B.C. and to restore a strong and connected ecosystem for our leagues, teams and junior hockey participants,” Cameron Hope said. “We are now positioned to return to competition for Hockey Canada’s national Junior A championship and, more importantly, to deliver a high-quality player experience for players and families.”

The Tsunami have also announced Briar McNanny as the club’s new head coach for the 2026-27 season.
