Nanaimo Ladysmith school district says a new draft strategic plan will focus on student success and safety for everyone.
Executive director of communications Dale Burgos says the strategic plan is broken down into two groups to make sure they have covered all avenues. But in the end, it all connects.
“There are also objectives that we look at in terms of how we can create success in the draft,” he says. “Included is something called the operational plan for staff to determine what can be done daily to create successes for all.”
A survey was conducted by the district to schools in the area to determine what some of the key concerns students and staff are facing, and how they should be included in the new strategic plan.
The results of 89 participants, with 82 responses, indicated they would like to see improved facilities, increased student engagement, addressing bullying, supporting students with diverse abilities, and ensuring effective teaching practices. The report also highlights the importance of environmental stewardship, mental health support, and collaboration among school staff.
A draft plan was submitted to the business committee on Oct. 12 and the engagement period for the strategic plan was held from Oct. 26 to Nov. 24.
It is hoped a final plan will be completed by the end of the school year.
