A single vehicle collision claimed two lives southwest of Nanaimo on Saturday morning.
It happened just before 9 am about fifteen kilometres west of the Trans Canada Highway on Nanaimo River Road. The incident closed part of the road in both directions near Deadwood Campground, which is where there is a sharp curve.
In a media release from Saturday evening, RCMP say that the BC Coroner Service has taken control of the investigation and that no foul play was suspected.
“General Duty patrol officers along with the BC Ambulance Service and crews with the Nanaimo Fire Rescue attended the scene in rural southwestern Nanaimo,” reads the press release. “Investigators are currently working with the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) and the BC Coroner Service as two individuals were confirmed deceased at the scene.”
During the road closure there was no available alternate route around the police investigative scene.
