Local organizations to receive over $550,000 for human and social services

Multiple local organizations in Powell River and on the Sunshine Coast are getting funding for human and social services for under-served groups.

The over $550,000 will benefit local organizations and is part of $61 million in community gaming grants from the province.

Organizations in Powell River and the Sunshine Coast include:

  • Sunshine Coast Resource Centre Society, $39,525 
  • Powell River Child, Youth and Family Services Society, $100,000 
  • Powell River Brain Injury Society, $55,000 
  • Sunshine Coast Hospice Society, $78,150 

Powell River-Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons says organizations like these contribute to the positive community found in the area.

“Part of what makes the Sunshine Coast such a vibrant place to live is the many community organizations that step up to support people in the area,” said Simons.

Whether you’ve lived in the area long-term, or are new to the region, you know the positive impact organizations like Sunshine Coast Resource Centre Society or the Powell River Child, Youth and Family Services Society have on our communities.”

The grants also fund arts and culture, sports, human and social services, public safety and environmental conservation along with parent and district advisory councils of B.C. schools.
