Nanaimo RCMP are investigating two incidents in a short time span

RCMP have two men in custody after they responded to reports of gunfire near the 200 block of Terminal Avenue in Nanaimo yesterday afternoon.

According to a media release police located a man with life-threatening injuries, which they believe to be caused by the firearm near an encampment near the banks of the Millstone River.

Police provided emergency first aid to the victim, and stabilized him before the man was rushed to Nanaimo Hospital for further medical treatment.

Reserve constable Gary O’Brien said no charges have been laid at this time because of the ongoing investigation

“Investigators are continuing their investigation and are expected to be on scene for most of the day,” he said.

According to police, additional resources were deployed to a stabbing report in the 100 block of Victoria Road but O’Brien says the incidents are unrelated.

“The incidents were unrelated to the shooting but did require additional police resources to respond and investigate properly,” he said.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the two incidents to contact the Nanaimo RCMP.

This is the second shooting to take place near the Millstone River since March.
