Nanaimo RCMP trying to locate missing care home resident

Nanaimo RCMP say they’re concerned about a 74 year old woman taken from her care home by a daughter on Saturday.

RCMP say around 3:30 pm, 74 year old Cecile McLelland, was removed from a Nanaimo care facility by 53 year old daughter Diane D’Onofrio.

Staff at the home say D’Onofrio is a frequent visitor, but they became concerned later in the afternoon when McLelland was not in her room for dinner.

The care home staff called police because McLelland suffers from dementia and needs 24 hour care.

Family members tell police they think D’Onofrio and McLelland may be traveling in a red Dodge Caravan, BC license plate 418FAP and heading to either Salmon Arm or Fort St John.

McLelland is wheel chair bound, with silver hair and wears glasses. D’Onofrio is approximately 5’5, 110 lbs with short blonde hair.
