Attempt to set world record for longest hockey game starts Friday

40 hockey players in Nanaimo will start a game on Friday morning that they hope will last over 105 hours. The game is happening at the Lacrosse Box next to the Nanaimo Curling Club.
Tali Campbell from the group Youth Sticking Together says the outdoor ball hockey game is all about achieving two main goals.
Campbell says the Quality Foods World’s Longest Hockey Game is raising money for Big Brother Big Sisters, and Canuck Place. He says they hope to raise $2,500 for each charity.
It’s a record they tried to beat two years ago, but fell short. Campbell says they learned a lot of key lessons that should help them succeed this year.
They’ll have to outlast the current record of 105 hours and 17 minutes. He says it will be very physically demanding for the players, but they’re ready to tackle the challenge.
Campbell says they’re starting Friday at 8:00am, and if all goes well the game will wrap up August 12 some time after 5:17pm. He says they’re encouraging the entire community come out to support the event. There will be various activities happening Saturday and Sunday, including visits by some special guests.
