Consultant urges Gibsons to support "portfolio self employment"

One of the people who worked with the Town of Gibsons’ former economic development committee is suggesting the Town boost its efforts to support an emerging trend, called “portfolio self employment”.
Consultant Dorothy Riddle says there are some big misconceptions about how to create long term economic stability for residents.
Riddle says contract work is here to stay and that’s a good thing for people willing to be self employed, provided they can offer a “portfolio” of expertise, and not focus on a single product.
She’s hoping the Town will to do things like promote teaching of basic business management skills in high school, encourage the growth of “co-working” spaces, and adopt zoning rules that make working from home easier.
