New Nanaimo warming centers get funding

The Risebridge Society and 7-10 Club Society’s warming centers are getting up and running, thanks to help from the city.

The new warming centers at 520 Prideaux Street and St. Paul’s Anglican Church at 100 Chapel Street will be supporting the homeless during the cold winter weather.

The center at 520 Prideaux Street will be open seven days a week, while St. Paul’s Anglican Church at 100 Chapel Street will be open Monday to Friday.

“The City of Nanaimo is pleased to be able to support the important work of the non-profit community who provide life-saving services during extreme weather events,” says Mayor Leonard Krog.

The warming centers are open from December to March. Warm meals and outreach services will be provided. The funding is secured through the Union of BC Municipalities Strengthening Communities’ Services Program to support Nanaimo’s 2022-2023 extreme weather and emergency food services.
