Chip your Christmas tree for a good cause

If you’re looking to get rid of your Christmas tree you can do it this weekend, while helping a good cause. Two organizations in Nanaimo and the Sechelt Fire Department will be chipping trees for charity.

Nanaimo Search and Rescue is trying it out as a fundraiser for the first time. Team Leader Kyle Van Delft says they’ll be chipping trees Saturday from 11:00-3:00pm in the Country Club Mall parking lot. Delft says they need funds for a new mobile command unit.

Meanwhile, the Nanaimo SPCA will be chipping Christmas trees Saturday and Sunday at Brook’s Landing Mall from 11:00-3:00pm. Executive Director Leon Davis says the money raised will help pay the $750,000 cost of running the shelter each year.

On the Sunshine Coast, the Sechelt Fire Department’s “charity chipping” will be from 10:00-2:00pm at the Fire Hall on Trail Avenue.
