99 hectares of land added to connect two Nanaimo parks

Parks in Nanaimo will be receiving a sizable expansion.

The Regional District and City of Nanaimo have announced that they’ve acquired 99.1 hectares of land from Mosaic Forest Management.

The district chipped in just under $3 million for the land, and the city added another $1.25 million to make it possible.

The land connects Mount Benson Regional Park and Westwood Lake Park.

They say the addition ensures the public has permanent access to this popular recreational corridor that takes them from lakeshore to mountain top.

Together, they’ll be updating the trailhead maps at both entrances to help folks navigate the terrain.
