Regional Recycling is taking another crack at setting up a facility in Nanaimo’s south end.
The company’s application to rezone two lots in the 1000 block of Old Victoria Road was rejected this spring, but a property not far away already has the right zoning – it just needs a small tweak.
The zoning allows something called a “Refund Container Recycling Depot”, which is basically a bottle depot. The company wants that changed to “Recycling Drop-Off Centre”
Maureen Pilcher, a consultant working for Regional, says the new definition would allow for the increasing number of things people can now recycle.

City staff are suggesting the change apply to all properties with “Highway Industrial” zoning.
Council voted Monday to send the proposed amendment to a public hearing.
