SAR teams busy

Area Search and Rescue teams have been having a busy 24 hours.

A search is expected to resume this morning for a man believed missing in the waters of Mill Bay, south of Duncan.

Constable Kevin Hopkinson with the Shawnigan Lake RCMP says the search was launched Wednesday afternoon, when the young man’s parents reported him missing.  An extensive land and water search was suspended at midnight, but a sonar team and aircraft will be involved when the search gets back underway.

Alberni Search and Rescue, meanwhile, were called out New Year’s Eve along with a helicopter from 442 Squadron in Comox to Mount Arrowsmith after a hiker from Victoria fell about 200 metres down a steep, icy, slope.

The 55 year old man suffered a broken leg and serious head injuries.
