Extra sailing added between Nanaimo and Horseshoe Bay after medical emergency

BC Ferries has added an extra sailing after a medical emergency at Departure Bay on Wednesday morning caused a 55 minute delay.

Deborah Marshall of BC Ferries says it happened just as the Queen of Oak Bay was getting ready to leave Nanaimo around 8:30am. A customer had their arm slammed in the trunk of their vehicle and went into shock. An ambulance was called and they were taken to hospital.

Marshall says they’ve added an extra sailing on the route to help deal with the large volume of travelers. There’s an extra 12:15pm sailing from Departure Bay and a 2:30pm sailing from Horseshoe Bay.
