Nanaimo Council offers expanded statement on "Leadercast" motion

Nanaimo City Council is following up the mayor’s statement the controversial May 5th cancellation of “Leadercast” at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre, with a lengthy written apology.
The move to cancel the event was prompted by concerns over the well-known anti-gay views of one of the US based sponsors.
A letter, posted on the City’s website Thursday, says Council recognizes that some support the decision and some don’t, but it wasn’t intended to be directed at or discriminatory against Christians or other religious groups.
And given the same circumstances in the future. they would not make the same decision.
