Art Gallery hoping to speed up consolidation

The Nanaimo Art Gallery is moving up the schedule for bringing everything under one roof.
The Gallery signed a co-management deal with the City about a year ago, and took over the gallery space at 150 Commercial Street in January.
That was phase one of the three phase plan.  The Gallery’s Deborah Zorkin told City Council this week they’re going to phase two as soon as they can.  That means amalgamating the gallery at VIU with 150 Commercial by the end of May 2015.
Under the co-management deal the gallery got a one time grant of 50-thousand dollars from the City.  It gets an annual operating grant of around 95 thousand.
