Gibsons Councillor concerned about loss of long form census data

A Gibsons Councillor says the loss of the long form census is making the work of the Sunshine Coast Housing Committee more difficult.

Lee Ann Johnson is the Town’s representative on that Committee, which is in the middle of the research leading up to the launch of a pilot affordable housing project.

In a recent update for Council Jonhson said the federal government’s move to end the mandatory census means the 2011 data, which comes from the new household survey, may not be reliable.

Johnson says the “knowledge gap” is a particular worry when trying to figure out the situation faced by renters on the Sunshine Coast, because Canada Mortgage and Housing doesn’t do a rental survey for the area.
