Water Consumption Targets Exceeded on Sunshine Coast

Hot, dry conditions on the Sunshine Coast have resulted in Stage 3 water consumption targets being exceeded most of July and August.

The demand in the last couple of months has been anywhere from 13,000 to 16,000 cubic metres a day and the target for stage three outdoor water restrictions is 12 million litres a day.

The average water use last week was 14 million litres.

Stage four water restrictions could be implemented soon, but as it stands right now, the Pender Harbour water systems are at stage one, Soames and Eastbourne water systems are in stage two and everyone else is subject to stage three.

This designation includes the Town of Gibson’s, zone three.
