A fundraising baseball tournament is coming to Ryan Dempster Field in Gibsons tomorrow.
All of the money raised through this fundraiser goes to the Sunshine Coast Baseball Association and Minor Softball and the focus of the funds will be on youth player development.
Event Coordinator Josh Romer said the goal is to start rejuvenating the passion for the game on the Sunshine Coast.
“The numbers have been dwindling over the years and they’ve been doing the same with Minor Hardball,” said Romer. “What we’re trying to do here is bring some energy and excitement and enthusiasm back to ball on the Sunshine Coast.”
All of the money raised during this full-day event will go to player development on the Sunshine Coast and Romer said the tournament will be capped at five teams and includes the always popular home run derby.
“With us only utilizing one field with five teams and each team getting a minimum of two games before the finals…it’s a full-day event, just with five teams,” said Romer. “Five games throughout the day with a home run derby and a fast-pitch competition and the finals, being the sixth game at the end of the day.”
