Small fire in Port Mellon area
An evacuation order was a result of last summer's wildfires, which created unstable terrain over the village of Zeballos.

Coastal Fire Centre crews are still working on a wildfire in the Port Mellon area.
Jeanne Larsen says it’s about 3 kilometers south of Port Mellon and it’s about 2 hectares in size.
“Crews were on site through the night and there was no growth of that fire. We have 24 personnel on the site and two helicopters.”
Larsen says the fire is listed as out of control.
“Basically, there is not a perimeter or a guard around the entire fire. Out of control doesn’t mean there are raging flames everywhere, it just means that we don’t have that particular control line in place completely around this fire.”
She’s not sure of the cause but an investigator is on the scene.
