Habitat for Humanity chooses to put one of their homes on the market

The For Sale sign has gone up at 742 North Road.

According to Ronnalee McMahon that’s one of the first Habitat for Humanity Homes built on the Sunshine Coast.

She said putting the house up for sale was a tough decision for the Board who could have opted to put another family in it.

“The sale of North Road was a very, very difficult decision for the Board, as you can appreciate we’ve seen a significant increase in real estate prices. So the question for the Board then became, do we do right by one family, or do we do right by 2 or 3 families. So, in any event, we have chosen to do right by 2 or 3 families and reinvest the proceeds from the sale of North Road.”

McMahon said the family that was in the house had put in their sweat equity on the house and had been making payments for about seven years.

They will be reimbursed those payments, minus administration fees, and that will allow them to move into the conventional housing market.
