Sunshine Coast Teachers on the picket lines as BCTF plans for a second week of rotating walkouts

The BC Teachers Federation says walkouts will continue next week.

Teachers will be back on the picket lines in Nanaimo Ladysmith on Monday and Qualicum next Thursday.

On the Sunshine Coast teachers are staging their first walkout today (May 29); they’re scheduled for a second round next Tuesday.

Sunshine Coast Teachers Association president Louise Herle says the mood on the picket lines this morning was upbeat despite the damp weather and the news they’ll have to do it again next week.  She also says they’ve been joined by a lot of parents.

Meanwhile, the union and the province are before the Labour Relations Board today over the issue of wage rollbacks triggered by the partial lockout that also started this week.
BCTF president Jim Iker says the government’s offer to rescind the rollbacks if teachers end the walkouts is meaningless.
